Crucell Appoints VP Corporate Development & Strategy

Leiden, The Netherlands, August 29, 2001 - Crucell N.V. (NASDAQ: CRXL; Euronext Amsterdam: CRXL), today announced that it has appointed Arsia Amir-Aslani as Vice President Corporate Development & Strategy. Dr Amir-Aslani will be responsible for Crucell's investor relations and corporate marketing activities.

Dr Amir-Aslani is a former investment banker and was a senior marketing and communications executive at a specialized healthcare consultancy firm, where he provided distinctive and innovative service to an array of leading US and European biotech companies. Prior to joining Crucell Dr Amir-Aslani was heading the life science practice at the corporate finance department of Oddo Pinatton, a leading French investment banking group, where he concentrated on M&A and business development activities. He is a regular contributor to several scientific and financial magazines. Dr Amir-Aslani holds a Ph.D. in Molecular and Structural Pharmacology from the University of Paris, Pierre et Marie-Curie as well as a Masters' degree in International Management from the University of Paris, Sorbonne.

Furthermore, the company also announces that Majid Mehtali has resigned as Vice President Research in order to progress his career outside of Crucell.

"Crucell has grown tremendously over the past year and Dr Mehtali was instrumental in implementing the adequate infrastructure necessary for securing our future growth."

Crucell's PER.C6(TM) fully human production cell line technologies are made available under license agreements for antibodies, proteins, vaccines and vector technology applications. Crucell has currently signed 18 PER.C6(TM) agreements with major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Crucell has a listing on NASDAQ and Euronext, and has raised EUR 144 million in its October 2000 IPO. Crucell currently employs approximately 130 people in its facilities in Leiden and Utrecht.
